Thanks for posting this- I am wrestling with this issue right now. I'd love to move to a more remote area but am hesitant to give up my proximity to Manhattan.

I think as a whole, clients benefit from the fact that we don't need to be on site. And to be honest, I haven't been in Manhattan a day since I started VAing!

Megan-
Great post. I wanted to let you know that I feel the same struggles. I am currently reading The Power of Full Engagement, which was recommended by Craig Cannings. It is so true that we need to make ourselves top on the list and take the time to "recover" from the work that we do. I am discovering what it is like to have fun again in my business and downtime.

Thanks again, Megan, for inviting me to be a guest on your blog. I've always valued learning more about my VA colleagues and hearing their experiences. We really learn so much from each other.

Great additional ideas for how someone can get involved, Meg! I wanted to point out that all independent contractors are business owners, whether they *want* to view themselves that way or not.

And anyone outsourcing would be wise to make sure the person being retained to do the work is appropriately set up as a business, or that person could find him or herself in a world of hurt with the IRS (who could deem said contractor an employee and require the outsourcer to pay back-owed payroll taxes for the contractor).

This is why I think it's wise to only outsource to those who have thought about what they're doing professionally, have strong business foundations under them, have high standards, and approach everything with regard to their work from a professional (and not hobby) POV.
